Manual vs DCT: What the Auction Data Says
The third pedal premium is real, measurable and growing across every M generation that offered both.

For a decade the industry argued that dual-clutch gearboxes were objectively better and buyers would follow. Buyers did not follow.
The premium by generation
E92 M3 manuals trade roughly twelve percent above comparable DCT cars. F80 M3 manuals are now above DCT equivalents after years below. F87 M2 manuals hold a similar gap. The pattern is consistent.
The exception
SMG-equipped E46 M3s remain discounted against manuals, but the gap has narrowed as sorted SMG cars with replaced pumps have proven durable. On the E60 M5, SMG is the only option, so the question does not arise.
Why it matters when buying
If you have any intention of selling, a manual is the safer purchase even if you prefer the automatic. If you are keeping the car forever, buy whichever you enjoy and ignore the spread.
