BMW Z3 M Coupe
The 'clown shoe': a shooting brake built to add rigidity to the M Roadster, now the most collectible modern-era BMW that isn't a homologation special.

The M Coupe exists because a group of BMW engineers built the hatchback roof in their own time to fix the roadster's chassis flex. Management approved it reluctantly. It sold poorly and is now worth multiples of the roadster.
The extra structure makes it dramatically stiffer and better to drive than the roadster, and the shape — long hood, tiny greenhouse, abrupt tail — is one of the most distinctive designs BMW has ever put into production.
Only 6,291 were built across all markets, with S54 cars making up a small fraction. It is the definition of a modern collectible.

Production ended 2002. S54 cars are the most valuable; Laguna Seca Blue and Imola Red are the signature colours.

What they are worth
S54 coupes are the blue-chip cars and trade at multiples of the S52 versions. Colour, mileage and documentation determine placement within the tier.
Any car with unresolved diff mount cracking, accident history or an unknown rod bearing record should be discounted heavily.
